TIPS FOR BETTER SLEEP

Seven or eight hours of sleep are perfect for our health and well being. But usually people underestimate the importance of sleep. But good night`s sleep gives you more energy, you are healthier and more productive. You bring better decisions, you have more patience and you are nicer to other people.

Good sleep lower our blood pressure and elevate levels of stress hormone in our body and during the sleep our body produces extra protein molecules which build new cells and repair the damaged ones. The best time to be asleep is between 11 pm and 4 am.

And here is one more good advice for better sleep. "Anyone who finds his or her mind racing in bed may not have taken enough time to process the day first"- Michael A. Grandner, Ph.D., instructor of psychiatry at the Behavioral Sleep Medicine program at the University of Pennsylvania told HuffPost. “A better approach would be [to] take some time in the evening to work through the day, make lists to do tomorrow and clear your mental desktop of the stuff that you still have to think about,” he says. “Then, get into bed.”

Here are some more useful and scientifically-backed tips for better sleep:

1. Drink a cup of chamomile tea before bedtime

2. Take a hot bath in which you can put a few drops of lavender oil

3. Meditate or pray

4. Eat dinner at least two hours before intended bedtime

5. Avoid sugar and alcohol

6. Set an alarm to go to bed on time

 7. If you feel comfortable, put on a pair of cozy, clean socks

8. Avoid caffeine in the late afternoon

9. Make sure your room is dark and that temperature is about 18°C

10. Electricity can suppress production of sleep hormone so switch all electronic devices off - an hour before bed!

11. Exercise every day, but not before bedtime

12. Bedroom should be only for sleep and sex. No TV, no laptop, no Smartphone.

13. Make sure you have good mattress and pillow - this is very important

14. If you like to nap in the afternoon - do it for only about 30 minutes

15. Take a deep breaths for a few rounds

16. If you really can`t sleep - get out of bed and do something else that is relaxing (read a book)

OFFLINE FOR A FEW DAYS...

(Photo: Darija Brnovic)

When was the last time you disconnected from the ‘digital world’? When was the last time you were offline for a few days? Despite the fact that I work in the media industry and that I adore blogs and the online world, sometimes I really like to disconnect from everything.

Especially when I`m on vacation…I walk barefoot, explore the beauty of the nature around me, I read a book, lie around or do some gardening… just enjoying my time. After that I feel more energized and rested.

I have noticed that sometimes I find it very difficult to do nothing.  And I feel guilty if I don`t do this or that. I always put so much on my ‘to-do-list’, but I`m changing this…

I prioritize things, I ask for help when I have various obligations, my to-do list is getting smaller and I now enjoy my free time.

So try sometimes to just walk around on a sunny day, read magazines or books, go for a swim, watch a movie, treat yourself to a home spa - try to do nothing. And when on vacation – be offline!

A DAY JUST FOR ME!

When was the last time that you organize one day just for you? Only for you, your mental and body health. When was the last time that you took break from your work, all responsibilities and things that need to be done? Did you ever spend one day just with you?

I challenge you to try it! And here are some things that you can try out during that special day:

GET ENOUGH SLEEP
In this crazy world I have noticed that lots of people around me don`t get enough sleep and they are constantly tired. That is not good for health, for your look and for your work. So, sleep, sleep, sleep and get up feeling fresh.

YOUR MORNING RITUAL
I have already wrote about importance of morning rituals that make your every day more beautiful. So, enjoy your morning coffee, juice and health breakfast. Do some stretching or morning jogging. Or read magazine, whatever makes you comfortable.

DISCONNECT FROM WORK
Here is everything clear :)

READ
Read all that interesting blogs that you 'saved for later', articles, online-magazines... Look for interesting sites, read all that things that you put in bookmarks because you did not have time.

MAKE A HEALTHY MEAL OR GO TO A RESTAURANT
Try that healthy recipe that you find delicious... You can invite your friend for a lunch. Glass of good wine with a person that make you smile - priceless.

GET A MASSAGE
How many times you decided: This month I`m going on a massage! This time, arrange a massage for this special day. Massage provides relief from back pain. It reduces stress, improve circulation, boosts immune system and, in general, improve quality of your life. You deserve it!

DO SOMETHING CREATIVE
Write a blog, decorate your working space, clean and arrange everything on your computer, make a collage of your favorite photographs, buy some flowers and put it around the house, write a letter to a good friend who lies far away, send a postcards to your friends (they really don`t expect it), all that concert tickets and dear memories put on a big paper and put it on the wall, call your aunt or grandmother and talk with them, explore what`s new in your city like exhibitions, new café bars etc..... do whatever you want!

WATCH MOVIES OR SERIES
You probably have the list...

TREAT YOURSELF
Let your bathroom become your private spa! Make your own scrub: homemade olive oil with sugar - and scrub your body, from your toes to your face. That`s my favorite one and skin after that is soooo soft and beautiful. You can also put some scented candles and just enjoy warm bath, put mask on your face, or you can do your nails...

And in the and.... go to bed earlier...
